Misamis University News

Almost three decades ago, a very aspiring high school graduate of 1979 of Misamis University approached me seeking for advice. He was then enrolled in the Electrical Engineering course at Misamis University.

He presented to me a telegram from Fort Gregorio del Pilar, Philippine Military Academy, Baguio City, informing him that he successfully passed the PMA Entrance Examination and was commanded to report to the academy of the country. The predicament that confronted him was his attendance in his electrical engineering course if he will report to the academy. I advice him to send excuse letters to his instructors as well as his dean to excuse him for a week or two while in the PMA.

And with the promise that he will make up for all the lessons he will missed during his absence. Enclosed in the excuse letters was the telegram from the Philippine Military Academy.

Fortunately he passed the physical, mental and medical examination, then returned to Ozamiz City and finished the semester as project.

He returned back to Baguio City and after a rigid, hectic, and strict military training lasting four years, he graduated with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was then retained by the academy as a military instructor up to the present.

He used to give the PMA Entrance Examination throughout the archipelago particularly, Ozamiz City which he himself is very proud of being an Ozamiznon.

Joseph P. Villanueva, Joey as I call him is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pastor H. Villanueva, who is currently living with him in his residence in the City of Pines and the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio City. He is married to Grace Marie Durias of Carangan, Ozamiz City who gave him his children, Kristoffer Joseph, who is a graduate of Nursing Course at eh University of Baguio, Stephen Joseph, a 4th year nursing student at Saint Louis University and Kevin Joseph, a 2nd year High School student a Berckeley School, Baguio City.

Joey was the classmate of Mr. Eduardo C. Cebedo the MU_CAT_Unit Batallion Commande at the time. Joey was the Alpha Company Commander. Misamis University got the 2nd place in the Annual CAT Inspection throughout Misamis Occidental. He was here recently in Ozamiz City, last August 27-31, 2010. He conducted another PMA Entrance Examination for another batch of new aspiring young Ozamiznons and Misamisnons rightly following the footsteps of Joey to give honor to his beloved Alma Mater, the Misamis University, to Ozamiz City and to the entire country.

Joey is now a full-pledge Colonel of the AFP currently assigned as Assistant Comandant of Cadets at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Fort Gregorio del Pilar Baguio City.
